Two people, a mother and her three-year-old daughter, have been killed after a trailer detached and rammed into a house in Luwero District.
The victims, identified as 38-year-old Annet Nandyose and Doreen Nakazi, died instantly when the trailer, which had detached from a moving truck, crashed into their home.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning in Ngogolo Village, Butuntumula Sub-county, along the Kampala–Gulu Highway.
The Mercedes-Benz truck (SSD 908A/SSD 909A) was travelling from Gulu to Kampala when the trailer broke off, lost control, and veered into the roadside building.
Two other victims, Samuel Kigwe and Jovan Kalule, sustained critical injuries and were rushed to Luwero Hospital for treatment.
Confirming the incident, the Savannah Regional Police spokesperson Sam Twiineamazima said preliminary findings point to the trailer detaching from the truck before hitting the house.
“The trailer detached from the truck upon reaching Ngogolo, veered off the road, and struck a building, leading to the deaths of two people and injuries to others,” he said.
The bodies were transferred to Luwero Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem, while the truck was seized by police to allow for further inspection.
