Uganda Development Bank (UDB) has appointed Peter Mukuru as Director, Business Technology and a member of its Executive Committee, reinforcing the institution’s leadership team as it advances its digital transformation strategy.
Mukuru joins UDB from the African Development Bank, where he served as IT Project Manager and led large-scale, multi-national digital transformation initiatives at both enterprise and continental levels. His appointment signals UDB’s commitment to aligning technology more closely with its development finance mandate.
With more than two decades of executive leadership experience spanning development finance, regulation, government, utilities and the private sector, Mukuru brings deep expertise in leveraging technology to strengthen institutional efficiency, governance frameworks and service delivery.
At UDB, he will spearhead the Bank’s digital transformation agenda, overseeing the strategic integration of technology into operations to support sustainable growth and enhance operational resilience.
During his tenure at the African Development Bank, Mukuru led modernization programmes in financial systems, enterprise service management and digital workplace transformation, while supporting the adoption of emerging technologies to improve performance and business continuity.
He previously held senior leadership roles at the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, the Uganda Communications Commission, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation and TraceCorp Solutions. Across these institutions, he delivered enterprise-wide technology initiatives, including ERP modernization, data and analytics transformation, cybersecurity enhancement, digital payments systems and business continuity management frameworks.
Beyond executive management, Mukuru brings board-level governance experience, having served as a Non-Executive Director in fintech, health services and professional governance institutions. His expertise spans digital governance, enterprise architecture, risk optimisation and cybersecurity.
He holds a Master of Business Administration, a Master of Information Technology and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Statistics. Mukuru is professionally certified in Information Security (CISM), Risk Management (CRISC), Project Management (PMP), Enterprise Architecture (TOGAF) and Service Management (ITIL v4). He has also undertaken advanced training in AI strategy and governance, digital economy, digital payments systems and innovation management.
