Uganda’s Deputy High Commissioner to Rwanda, Amb. Santa Mary Laker Kinyera, has died.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed her death on Tuesday, describing it as a significant loss to Uganda’s diplomatic service.
“It is with profound shock and sorrow that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces the passing of our dear colleague Amb. Santa Laker Kinyera which occurred at Mulago Specialised National Referral Hospital,” the ministry said in a statement.
Amb. Kinyera passed away at Mulago Specialised National Referral Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.
She joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994 as a career diplomat and rose through the ranks over the years. At the time of her death, she was serving as Uganda’s Deputy High Commissioner in Kigali, Rwanda.
The Ministry said details of the funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
