Vivo Energy Uganda has unveiled the upgraded Shell Amber Court service station in Jinja City, expanding its fuelling capacity and introducing additional retail, dining, financial and vehicle servicing facilities.
The redevelopment transforms the station into a multi-service destination designed to meet the changing needs of motorists, residents and travellers while improving convenience and operational efficiency.
The upgraded facility brings together several service providers under one roof, including Java House, KFC Uganda, Norfrax Forex Bureau, a Stanbic Bank ATM, GoodLife Pharmacy and a new MTN Uganda service centre. Customers can also access an expanded Shell Select shop offering a wider range of convenience products.
Java House has doubled the size of its outlet at the station, with an expanded dining area and designated recreational and play spaces for children and adults.
The station’s fuelling infrastructure has also undergone a major upgrade. The forecourt now features eight fuelling positions, up from four, in a move intended to improve traffic flow and serve more customers efficiently.
Vivo Energy Uganda has increased storage capacity for Shell V-Power, Shell FuelSave Petrol and Shell FuelSave Diesel to support the station’s expanded operations. The vehicle service bay has gained an additional lane, while a dedicated service area has been introduced for boda boda riders.
The redevelopment has increased land utilisation from approximately 65 per cent to more than 90 per cent, according to the company, while incorporating Shell’s latest global visual identity.
Hans Paulsen, Executive Vice President for East at Vivo Energy Group, who attended the unveiling as chief guest, said the investment reflects the company’s strategy of adapting its retail network to changing customer needs and market conditions.
“Across Vivo Energy, we are seeing cities grow, economies develop and the way people move and spend their time change. Our business has to keep pace with that change,” Paulsen said.
He explained that the investment goes beyond expanding fuel sales to create service stations that cater to customers’ everyday needs, including dining, shopping, vehicle servicing and taking breaks during long journeys.
Paulsen also reaffirmed Uganda’s importance to the group’s operations, noting that the company sees opportunities for further growth in the country and in Jinja.
Vivo Energy Uganda Managing Director Joanita Mukasa Menya said the redevelopment was intended to make Shell service stations more convenient by bringing together services that customers might otherwise need to access at different locations.
“When our customers visit our Shell service stations, they may simply want to refuel and leave. But sometimes they need a coffee, a meal, to pick up something from the shop, access a financial service, service their vehicle or simply take a break before continuing their journey,” Menya said.
She added that the expanded fuelling positions, retail facilities and vehicle servicing areas, alongside the new commercial partners, would provide customers with more options during their visits.
The investment comes as Jinja continues to play an important role in Uganda’s commercial, industrial and tourism sectors. Its position as a destination for business and leisure also makes it a strategic market for services catering to motorists and travellers.
The upgraded Shell Amber Court station forms part of Vivo Energy Uganda’s wider programme to expand and modernise its Shell-branded retail network across the country. The company says the investment is intended to bring its products and services closer to customers while responding to changing consumer expectations.
With increased fuelling capacity, expanded dining and retail facilities, additional vehicle servicing options and a broader range of on-site services, the redevelopment positions Shell Amber Court as a modern convenience destination for customers in Jinja.
