Wazalendo SACCO has donated 10 computers to the UPDF National Referral Hospital in Mbuya to strengthen the hospital’s digital transformation efforts and improve healthcare services for soldiers and their families.
The computers were handed over by the SACCO’s Director of Finance and Administration, Col Benon Kato, on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer, Brig Gen Yusuf Magero Buha, during a ceremony held at the Wazalendo SACCO headquarters.
Speaking during the handover, Col Kato said the donation is part of the SACCO’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme aimed at recognizing the dedication of health workers serving members of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces.
“This gesture directly aligns with Wazalendo SACCO’s core vision and mission of improving members’ welfare,” Col Kato said.
He urged the hospital management to take good care of the equipment to ensure it serves its intended purpose for many years.
Receiving the computers, the hospital’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Col John Lusiba, thanked Wazalendo SACCO for the timely support, saying the equipment will boost the hospital’s ongoing digitalisation programme.
“The computers will be integrated into our electronic health management system to automate records, streamline operations, and drastically reduce patient waiting times,” Col Lusiba said.
He added that the partnership between Wazalendo SACCO and the UPDF National Referral Hospital reflects their shared commitment to improving the welfare of UPDF personnel.
“Wazalendo and the referral hospital share the same mandate of improving the welfare of our troops. Welfare extends far beyond financial support,” he noted.
The handover ceremony was witnessed by Wazalendo SACCO Director of Operations, William Atalyeba, heads of departments from the SACCO, and the hospital’s Political Commissar, Maj Abert Tibbs Arinaitwe.
