The National Unity Party (NUP) has  rejected the outcome of the 2026 presidential election in which NRM Yoweri Museveni was declared the winner.

The Electoral Commission last month declared Museveni winner of the polls , having got 71.65% of the vote while  his main opponent, National Unity Platform’s Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, trailing with about  2 million votes representing 24% of the total votes.

Commenting about the outcome of the election, three weeks later, the leading opposition party said they don’t agree with the results.

“We do not recognise the presidential election results as declared. The Electoral Commission must come out and release the declaration forms that were used to announce Mr Museveni as the winner,” NUP Secretary General, Lewis Rubongoya told journalists at the party headquarters in Kavule.

Commenting about the whereabouts of the party president, Rubongoya said Kyagulanyi is safe and sound and that he will make a public appearing at a time of his choosing.

The NUP Secretary General further announced that the party’s candidates who were allegedly denied victory in parliamentary and local government races would seek legal redress, including himself.

He also announced plans to challenge in courts of law, elections where their parliamentary and local government flag bearers lost.

“We are heading to court over the theft of our parliamentary and local government seats. The will of the people was ignored in many constituencies.”
