The ruling National Resistance Movement party has said it is dissatisfied with the outcome of the Kawempe North by-election where they lost to opposition National Unity Platform.
Addressing journalists on Monday, NRM Secretary General, Richard Todwong said there was violence orchestrated by NUP.
“There were acts of violence that were reported in the several polling stations within Kawempe North constituency that were carried out by supporters and sympathizers of the National Unity Platform (NUP) political party,” Todwong said.
He said there was cancellation of election results from several polling stations by the Electoral Commission disenfranchised about 50,000 registered voters from exercising their democratic rights in a free and democratic way.
According to Todwong, the CEC meeting which sat on Friday resolved that the ruling party totally rejects the results of the Kawempe North Constituency that was declared by the Electoral Commission.
“The election was not free and fair and whoever was involved must be investigated. We were victims in some of these issues. The commotion was started by members and supporters of NUP. The party calls upon the government to carry out a forensic audit to bring all the culprits who participated and messed up the election to book as soon as possible.”
He said the party has instructed its lawyers to immediately challenge the results of by elections in courts of law.
