President Museveni has challenged voters in Kawempe North constituency to vote for NRM’s Faridah Nambi to ensure their problems are worked upon.
Canvassing votes for Nambi, Museveni said some of the problems the constituency is facing are self-made when the people voted for opposition leaders.
“I am now appealing to you and informing you that part of the medicine is free education in government schools. Elect Nambi so she comes to fight and implement this at the local level. I cant be everywhere but the leaders you elect should help you on rectifying some of these problems,” Museveni said at Mbogo Primary School playgrounds on Tuesday.
He said he had been informed the shs100million per parish for PDM is not enough since parishes in Kampala have a huge population unlike in villages.
“Now we are going to put more money in wards in Kampala. The question however is why had opposition you have been voting never brought it up? Those of us who are footballers then say, you have scored an own goal.”
The president said politics is like medicine that a few know how to use it to solve problems.
“Elect a party which understands your problems. If you don’t do that, you will not get a solution. Therefore, don’t look at Nambi, look at the party first. And when you are listening to the campaigns, listen to whether the party understands your problems and has got the capacity to solve them,” he said.
Museveni said right from the beginning, the NRM knew the area and country’s problems and it started mechanisms to solve them.
He for example mentioned peace that he said has enable set up of factories which offer employment to a number of people but also electricity which has enabled the set up of these factories.
“Those factories are part of the solutions to your problems because they create jobs for you and market for your products. Since those factories are near you, you should ensure you benefit from them. Those factories came because of the stability of the NRM. They came because of the electricity to run them. So, you can see that NRM from the beginning was aware of your problems.”
President Museveni also urged the people of Kawempe to work towards creating wealth to improve their livelihoods.
“We can talk about development in general like the tarmac roads, Kawempe hospital, electricity but at night you don’t sleep on the tarmacked road, you sleep in your house and when you get back to your house you find the problems you left there in the morning, are there waiting for you,” he said.
President Museveni further highlighted several solutions that the NRM government came up with to solve the problems of Ugandans, including peace, free education in government schools, prosperity for all and imparting technical skills to the youth to deal with the challenge of unemployment.
He said despite several interventions, challenges continue to persist in Kawempe North that he blamed on locals for voting leaders who don’t lobby from government.
“We have been doing things like roads in this area without any representative in our meetings. There are things I can do as president of Uganda and sit with Minister for Kampala to plan without a delegate from you people but there are smaller things I might not know. That’s why you need a member of parliament who is working with government,” Museveni said.
“ You are talking of expensive water yet we had started many years ago to make outside stand pumps and we had said one should pay shs25 per jerrican but since you don’t have anyone to support this, it semes this program stopped. The problems you are talking about will be solved if you vote for someone in NRM . Those problems I can’t follow from Entebbe. You need a member of parliament working well with government.”
