Police have arrested 94 suspects in an overnight crackdown targeting criminal gangs and other suspected offenders in several crime-prone areas across the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
The intelligence-led operations were conducted between midnight and 5:00am on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in areas of Mukono, Nagalama, Kira Road and Kabalagala.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala said the operations were aimed at disrupting criminal activities and dismantling gangs allegedly involved in waylaying and robbing members of the public, phone snatching and other related offences.
In Mukono, police arrested 22 suspects during operations in Kamwanyi, Ham Mukasa, Kasokosi, Lwanda, Namanve and surrounding areas.
Another 21 suspects were arrested in Nagalama following operations in Kalagi, Katonga Ghetto, Kakoola and neighbouring areas.
In the Kira Road Division, police arrested 13 suspects during operations conducted in Kisaasi, Dungu Zone, Kikulu Zone and surrounding areas.
Kabalagala recorded the highest number of arrests, with 38 suspects taken into custody during targeted operations.
“During the operations, Police also recovered several exhibits, including suspected narcotic substances and other items believed to be connected to criminal activities,” Kawala said.
She said the operations form part of the police’s ongoing efforts to prevent and disrupt crime and dismantle gangs operating in different parts of the metropolitan area.
“We will continue to sustain intelligence-led, targeted and disruptive operations in identified crime-prone areas across the Kampala Metropolitan Area, with the aim of making communities safer and protecting the public and their property,” Kawala said.
Police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities and persons to the authorities.
