Stanbic Bank Uganda has announced the departure of Daniel Ogong, its long-serving Head of Brand and Marketing, who will officially exit his role on October 1, 2025, after eight impactful years at the helm of the bank’s brand strategy.
Widely recognised as one of Uganda’s most influential marketing leaders, Ogong has been instrumental in crafting Stanbic’s identity as a trusted and purpose-driven financial institution.
His tenure is marked by bold campaigns, strategic brand storytelling, and an unwavering commitment to aligning the bank’s message with Uganda’s national development agenda.
Under Ogong’s leadership, Stanbic invested significantly in local music, sports, and entrepreneurship, positioning the bank not just as a financial service provider but as an active enabler of Uganda’s growth. The results have been notable, with the brand receiving numerous industry accolades and widespread public trust.
In 2024, Ogong was named Marketing Pioneer of the Year by Evolve Group Africa, commended for his ability to turn strategy into business results. In 2023, he received the Professional of the Year award from the African Marketing Confederation, a testament to his standing among industry peers across the continent.
Stanbic Bank Uganda Chief Executive Mumba Kalifungwa lauded Ogong’s legacy, noting his instrumental role in elevating the bank’s visibility and reputation.
“Daniel has been a transformative leader whose work has positioned Stanbic Bank as a brand built on trust, innovation, and client focus. His impact extends beyond our organisation, influencing the entire marketing industry in Uganda,” Kalifungwa said.
Reflecting on his journey, Ogong expressed gratitude for the opportunity to shape Stanbic’s brand story:
“Leading the Stanbic brand and marketing strategy has been one of the greatest privileges of my career. I’m proud of the meaningful work we’ve done to connect the bank’s purpose with the real lives of Ugandans,” he said. “I leave knowing the brand is in a strong position for continued growth.”
Ogong is also remembered internally as a mentor and team builder, having nurtured emerging marketing talent and instilled a culture of purpose-led storytelling within the bank’s marketing function.
Stanbic confirmed that Diana Kahunde, currently serving as Brand and Marketing Manager for Personal and Private Banking, will assume the role of Interim Head of Brand and Marketing starting October 1, 2025.
Kahunde is credited with leading several high-performing campaigns within the retail banking segment and is expected to provide continuity and strategic stability during the transition period.
While Ogong departs his role, Stanbic noted that his influence on the brand and the broader marketing landscape in Uganda will remain significant for years to come.
