Butambala County MP and senior National Unity Platform (NUP) member Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi has urged voters to reject candidates who were denied party cards, warning that such individuals are not true representatives of the party’s values.
Speaking during a NUP rally in Mityana District, Kivumbi told supporters to remain vigilant and loyal to officially endorsed candidates as the 2026 general elections draw closer.
“Don’t vote for anyone who was denied a card,” Kivumbi cautioned, drawing loud applause from the crowd.
“And in some parts especially here in Mityana, anyone who is not under our umbrella symbol, just know that one is for Museveni.”
His remarks, which were met with laughter and cheers, came as he called for unity among opposition supporters and warned against infiltration by individuals working to weaken the party from within.
NUP president and presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, echoed Kivumbi’s message, stressing that the party would not give cards to undeserving individuals.
“We are not foolish to give cards to people who don’t stand for our values,” Kyagulanyi said.
“For the first time, you’ve seen many people from the same region as I am starting political parties — all with one goal: to fight Kyagulanyi.”
He accused some opposition figures of aligning with President Yoweri Museveni to derail the struggle for change, and promised to address issues like land grabbing and unemployment once in power.
Despite heavy rain, NUP supporters filled Busujju and Busubuzi grounds in Mityana Municipality, waving party flags and chanting Kyagulanyi’s name as he spoke from his campaign truck.
The Mityana rally marked the start of Kyagulanyi’s Buganda campaign trail, with upcoming stops scheduled in Mubende, Gomba, and Mpigi districts, where he will engage his support.
