Police in Iganga District have arrested seventeen suspected aggravated robbers and recovered three AK-47 rifles in a joint intelligence-led security operation.
Police said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle violent criminal networks in the region.
“Police in Iganga District conducted a successful joint intelligence-led crackdown on hardcore aggravated robbery criminals, resulting in the arrest of seventeen (17) suspects and the recovery of three (3) AK-47 rifles,” the statement reads.
The breakthrough began on 27th September 2025, when army operatives attached to Lugazi apprehended Allan Gumikiriza after a failed robbery in Walukuba, Jinja City, where one suspect was put out of action. An SMG rifle with two rounds of ammunition was recovered.
During questioning, police said Gumikiriza revealed his involvement in several violent attacks.
“During interrogation, Gumikiriza admitted involvement in several aggravated robberies in Iganga, including the theft of UGX 9,500,000 from Justine Ndagire,” police said.
Gumikiriza also provided information linking his accomplices, confirming that he conducted reconnaissance with Saidi Magumba, a 25-year-old resident of Nkono 3 Village.
Guided by this intelligence, a joint team carried out a follow-up operation on 20th November 2025, resulting in the arrest of Saidi Magumba, Abdullah Kakaire alias Brown, and Samuel Mulondo alias Shadow.
Police said the suspects confessed to participating in multiple robberies and provided further details on the source of their weapons.
“They further disclosed that the weapon used was supplied and stored by Muzei, a resident of Bugembe Division, Jinja City,” the statement added.
Investigators believe the gun recovered in Walukuba is the same one used in the Iganga robberies. Police said Muzei abandoned it at the scene and remains at large.
