At least 99.6% of candidates who sat the 2025 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams have passed, according to results released today by First Lady and Education Minister Janet Museveni at State House, Nakasero.

This is an improvement from 98.05% in 2024.

A total of 432,159 candidates sat the exams in 4,308 centres across the country, a 12.1% increase from last year’s 357,120 candidates.

Of these, 52.7% were girls and 47.3% were boys, while 154,637 students were under the Universal Secondary Education (USE) programme.

The results show that 429,949 candidates passed, higher than the 350,146 who passed in 2024.

Under the new competency-based curriculum, candidates who meet the requirements are awarded the UCE certificate (Result 1).

Those who do not meet the conditions receive Result 2 or Result 3, depending on whether they missed subjects, had no project score, or scored below the basic grade.

The results also show a drop in percentage of candidates who did not qualify for the certificate from 1.9% in 2024 to just 0.31% in 2025, reflecting overall improved performance across the country.
