Muslims in Uganda and across the world will celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Friday, March 20, 2026, after the crescent moon marking the end of Ramadan was not sighted on Wednesday evening.
According to a statement from Haramain Sharifah, the Shawwal crescent was not seen, meaning Ramadan will complete 30 days.
“The crescent of Shawwal 1447 was not sighted anywhere today. Therefore, Ramadan will complete 30 days and Eid al-Fitr will be observed on Friday,” the statement read.
Eid al-Fitr, also known as the Festival of Breaking the Fast, marks the end of Ramadan, a period dedicated to fasting, prayer, and reflection.
On Friday morning, Muslims are expected to gather at mosques across the country for special Eid prayers.
Families will also celebrate by sharing meals, exchanging greetings, and spending time together.
The day is marked by joy, charity, and togetherness, with Muslims encouraged to give Zakat al-Fitr to support the needy before the prayers.
