Two women have been remanded to Luzira Prison after they were arraigned before the Kira Chief Magistrates Court over allegations of forging a land title and using it to fraudulently obtain a loan.
The suspects, identified as Lucky Kamakune and Hadijja Nabatanzi, were on Friday presented in court by the State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU) in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
They are facing multiple charges including criminal trespass, impersonation, forgery, and uttering false documents.
According to investigators, the two women, together with others still at large, allegedly conspired to falsely claim ownership of a plot of land located in Kyadondo, Kiwologoma, Kira Division in Wakiso District. The land reportedly belongs to Suzan Karungi.
It is alleged that the suspects forged a land title, which they later presented to PLC Financial Services in Ntinda, Kampala, as collateral in order to secure a loan of Shs30 million.
Authorities say the fraud was uncovered following investigations into the suspicious land documents.
The court remanded the accused to Luzira Prison until March 31, 2026, when they are expected to return for further hearing of the case.
The State House Investors Protection Unit, under the guidance of Col. Edith Nakalema, has reiterated its commitment to cracking down on fraud, particularly land-related crimes that undermine investment and economic development.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing, with security agencies pursuing other suspects believed to be involved in the scheme.
