Immigration authorities have intensified nationwide enforcement operations, arresting 36 undocumented foreign nationals in coordinated crackdowns in Mbarara and Mbale.
According to Immigration Uganda, the operation conducted on Wednesday, April 15, in Mbarara led to the arrest of six foreign nationals, including five Indians and one Egyptian, while 55 others were found compliant with immigration laws.
“In operations in Mbarara, our enforcement team arrested six foreign nationals, five Indians and one Egyptian. 55 were found compliant,” the department said in a statement.
In Mbale, the enforcement team apprehended 30 more suspects of Egyptian, Indian and Somali nationalities.
“In Mbale, we apprehended 30 suspects of Egyptian, Indian and Somali nationalities. All are being processed for prosecution,” Immigration Uganda added.
The department reiterated its call to all foreign nationals to regularise their stay in the country.
“We remind foreign nationals to legalise their stay by applying online at visas.immigration.go.ug,” the statement noted.
The latest crackdown follows a similar operation conducted a day earlier on April 14 in Bweyogerere, where eight suspected illegal immigrants were arrested.
“Our enforcement team has today, 14 April 2026, arrested eight suspected illegal immigrants of Indian, Pakistani and Afghan nationalities in Bweyogerere suburb. They are being processed for prosecution,” Immigration Uganda said.
Authorities say the ongoing operations are aimed at enforcing compliance with Uganda’s immigration laws and ensuring all foreign nationals are properly documented.
