The Chief Magistrate’s Court in Makindye has remanded a Kampala businessman accused of shooting dead his maid’s boyfriend in Bunga, Makindye Division.
John Peter Mulwana, 41, was on Thursday remanded to Luzira Government Prison after being charged with murder and attempted murder.
Prosecution alleges that on April 26 at around 9pm in Bunga-Kalungu, Makindye Division, Kampala District, Mulwana shot dead Kevin Atwizukire, who was reportedly the boyfriend of his maid, Joan Nerima.
Mulwana was not allowed to take plea on the charges, which are capital offences, and was remanded until his next court appearance.
According to police investigations, the incident occurred after Atwizukire visited Nerima at her workplace and entered her quarters.
Police say the residence’s gateman, identified as Geld Tumwekwase, later informed Mulwana that someone had entered the maid’s house.
It is alleged that when Mulwana knocked on the door, Nerima opened and pleaded for mercy. However, Mulwana, who was reportedly armed with a pistol, allegedly shot her in the shoulder.
Police further allege that Atwizukire attempted to flee during the commotion but was shot in the back by Mulwana near the gate.
At the crime scene, investigators recovered two spent cartridges. Nerima was rushed to hospital by police officers for treatment, while Atwizukire’s body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
