President Museveni urged newly passed-out police officers to embrace modern policing technologies, saying the fight against crime can no longer rely on traditional methods alone.
He made the call while presiding over the pass-out ceremony of 10,017 police and immigration officers at Kabalye Training School in Masindi District on Friday.
Speaking at the pass-out ceremony, Museveni called on the graduates to make full use of forensic science, K9 units and CCTV systems to improve crime detection, investigations and prevention.
“Use modern tools such as forensic science, K9 units and CCTV to defeat crime,” he said.
He also warned the officers against corruption, stressing that discipline and integrity are the foundation of effective policing and public trust.
“Discipline and integrity are the foundation of service. You must reject corruption and safeguard your health,” Museveni added.
The President congratulated the graduates, comprising the 25th Intake of Probationer Police Constables and the 3rd Intake of the Immigration Officers’ Course, for successfully completing their training. He commended the leadership of the and the instructors for producing a disciplined force.
Museveni further emphasized that security agencies play a vital role in supporting Uganda’s socio-economic transformation by protecting lives and property and creating an environment that enables wealth creation.
“Security must also support wealth creation by protecting our people and ensuring every Ugandan joins the money economy,” President emphasized.
Inspector General of Police said the 9,952 graduates are the largest single intake in the history of the Uganda Police Force.
He noted that the new officers have increased the force’s strength to 58,369 personnel, improving its capacity to maintain peace and security across the country.
He added that the force’s five-year Strategic Policing Plan (2025/26–2029/30) is aligned with the National Development Plan IV and is aimed at enhancing public safety while supporting national development programmes.
