Old Mutual Investment Group Uganda (OMIG) has launched a new Unit Trust campaign aimed at encouraging Ugandans to adopt disciplined investment habits and take a more deliberate approach to managing and growing their money.
Running under the theme “Your Money Is Serious Business,” the campaign seeks to increase awareness about Unit Trusts and demonstrate how professionally managed investment solutions can help individuals achieve long-term financial goals.
The campaign targets salaried professionals, entrepreneurs, business owners and experienced investors looking for structured ways to grow their wealth while maintaining visibility and control over their investments.
Unit Trusts are collective investment schemes where funds from different investors are pooled together and professionally invested in a diversified portfolio of assets. Through this model, individual investors can access professional fund management and diversification without having to independently select and manage each investment.
Uganda’s collective investment sector has continued to expand as more people seek accessible investment opportunities. According to the Capital Markets Authority (CMA), collective investment schemes had UGX 1.15 trillion in assets under management and 32,998 investor accounts by November 2024.
Old Mutual Investment Group Uganda is a licensed collective investment scheme manager offering Money Market, Balanced, Dollar and Umbrella Unit Trust schemes.
Speaking about the campaign, OMIG Managing Director Zac Kiseesi said the initiative responds to growing interest among Ugandans seeking reliable ways to protect and grow their money.
“Money represents the plans, responsibilities and ambitions that people work hard to achieve. It should therefore be managed with the seriousness, discipline and professional oversight it deserves,” Kiseesi said.
He added that investing should not be viewed as a practice reserved for wealthy individuals or financial experts but as a responsible financial habit that people can gradually adopt.
“Through this campaign, we want to help more Ugandans understand that investing is not reserved for a small group of financial experts or wealthy individuals. It is a responsible financial behaviour that people can adopt progressively as they work towards their goals.”
Kiseesi said OMIG combines financial services experience, professional fund management and digital solutions to make investing more convenient and transparent.
“Our objective is to give investors confidence that their money is being managed responsibly while enabling them to view, deposit, withdraw and track their investments more conveniently.”
OMIG customers can start investing through Unit Trusts with an initial amount of UGX 100,000. Investors can access their accounts through the OMIG Wealth App and the Old Mutual online portal, where they can open accounts, make deposits, initiate withdrawals and monitor investment performance.
The company said the campaign will also educate customers about additional protection benefits available to qualifying investors who maintain or grow their Unit Trust balances, including education, disability and life-related protection benefits.
Kiseesi noted that trust remains central to investment decisions, adding that transparency, good governance and responsible management of customer funds are key to building confidence among investors.
“Trust is built through sound governance, transparency, consistent service and the responsible management of customers’ funds,” he said.
The campaign comes at a time when more Ugandans are exploring ways to preserve the value of their money, achieve financial goals and build sustainable wealth through long-term investment strategies.
