Prince David Kijanangoma, an elder brother of the new Tooro King, Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma Nyobongo I, and a cousin of the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, has died.
Kijanangoma reportedly succumbed to throat cancer at the Mulago Cancer Institute, according to journalist and close associate Andrew Irumba.
The Tooro royal family has been mourning the death of King Oyo, who died on August 27, 2026, in the United States after battling cancer.
Prince Kijanangoma gained public attention in 2015 after challenging the reign of his cousin, the late King Oyo, in a dispute that attracted significant attention within the Tooro Kingdom.
His death comes shortly after the Tooro Babiito succession committee selected his younger brother, Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, as the new King of Tooro following the death of King Oyo.
The death adds to a period of mourning and heightened tension within the Tooro royal family following the death of King Oyo and the ensuing succession dispute.
