The General Court Martial in Makindye has sentenced two civilians to two years in prison each after they pleaded guilty to charges of unlawfully wearing army uniform and illegal possession of a firearm.
The court, chaired by Brig Gen Richard Tukachungurwa, found Benjamin Nsubuga and Benson Asiimwe guilty on their own plea and sentenced them to two years’ imprisonment.
Nsubuga, who was charged as A1, will serve his sentence at Kitalya Prison, while Asiimwe, A2, will serve his sentence at Gulu Prison.
The charges relate to the unlawful wearing of army uniform and illegal possession of a firearm, offences that were prosecuted before the military court.
The General Court Martial is the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) highest military judicial body, mandated to handle capital and disciplinary cases involving senior officers and other persons subject to military law.
The same court also handled the case of Ochan Robert Othieno, who is facing a charge of unlawful possession of military clothing. He was remanded to the Makindye detention centre until September 28, 2026.
