Police have called for stronger cooperation between security agencies and residents of Kalagi in Nakifuma Town Council, Mukono District, as part of efforts to improve public safety and strengthen crime prevention.
The call was made on October 14, 2026, by the Deputy Commander of Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP), ACP Gerald Twishime, during a community sensitisation exercise aimed at improving police-community relations and raising awareness of security matters.
The meeting brought together police officers from KMP Operations, the KMP Community Liaison Office, the Eastern Region Police Command and division-level police leadership, alongside local leaders, religious leaders and members of the public.
Addressing the gathering, Twishime thanked residents for their continued cooperation with police and emphasised the importance of maintaining open communication between security agencies and the communities they serve.
He clarified that the meeting was not necessarily a response to an increase in criminal cases but rather an initiative to strengthen collaboration, sensitise residents on security matters and bring police closer to the public.
Twishime encouraged residents to maintain contact with police officers, promptly report criminal incidents and suspicious activities, and participate in neighbourhood watch initiatives to improve security in their respective areas.
He noted that community members had an important role to play in identifying security concerns and providing timely information that could help police prevent crime and respond effectively to incidents.
The Deputy Commander also cautioned boda boda riders against motorcycle theft, warning that suspected thieves sometimes use deceptive tactics to steal motorcycles from unsuspecting operators. He urged riders to remain vigilant and report suspicious behaviour to the relevant authorities.
Twishime further highlighted the importance of cooperation between residents and police in maintaining peace ahead of the forthcoming Local Council I (LC1) re-elections.
He said the electoral timetable had already been issued and assured residents that police were prepared to provide security throughout the electoral process.
He warned individuals intending to cause disorder or disrupt the elections to desist, urging all stakeholders to observe the law and maintain peace before, during and after the exercise.
The sensitisation meeting provided a platform for residents, community leaders and police officers to discuss security concerns and explore ways of strengthening cooperation.
The engagement underscored the importance of trust, effective communication and shared responsibility in maintaining security, with police encouraging residents of Kalagi and surrounding areas to remain active partners in promoting peace and public safety.
