Police have issued strict traffic guidelines, announced road diversions and designated cutoff points ahead of the 2026 Masaza Cup final scheduled for today, Saturday, October 31, at Muteesa II Memorial Stadium in Wankulukuku.
Kyaggwe will face five-time champions Gomba in the final, which kicks off at 4pm. The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, is expected to preside over the closing ceremony of this year’s tournament.
The Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety said the measures are intended to ensure smooth traffic flow, protect public safety and facilitate the orderly movement of fans and other road users around the stadium.
According to police, normal traffic flow will be maintained along the Masaka-Kampala Highway.
However, motorists travelling from Kabusu Traffic Lights along Wankulukuku Road will be diverted at Kiyimba Road towards Mutundwe.
Similarly, traffic approaching from Entebbe Road via Nyanama Road will be diverted towards Mutundwe Road at Kitebi Traffic Lights. Motorists will then access Wankulukuku Road through Kiyimba Road.
Police also announced traffic cutoffs along several roads, including Wankulukuku-Wamala Road, Wankulukuku-Kasibante Road, Kivimba-Wankulukuku Road, Wamala-Suuna Road and Kasibante-Suuna Road, as well as at Kitebi Traffic Lights.
Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura urged motorists and football fans to plan their journeys early and cooperate with officers deployed to manage traffic.
“Plan your journey early and cooperate with officers deployed to manage traffic,” Kananura said.
He cautioned motorists against drink-driving, reckless driving, speeding and dangerous passenger practices, urging them to follow instructions issued by Traffic Police.
“Support your team, but protect lives. Your team needs your support, but your family needs you alive,” Kananura said.
Police further said vehicles transporting fans will be parked at Kitebi Primary School, with access to the parking area through the traffic lights under the direction of Traffic Police officers.
VVIPs and VIPs will park in front of the stadium as directed by Traffic Police.
Parking along roads and in undesignated areas has been prohibited, while motorcycles will not be allowed beyond designated cutoff points.
The traffic arrangements come as thousands of football fans prepare to converge at Wankulukuku for the eagerly anticipated final between Kyaggwe and Gomba, one of the most successful sides in Masaza Cup history.
Gomba, five-time champions, will be making their 11th appearance in the final as they seek to win a sixth Masaza Cup title.
