Police in Luwero District have rescued a five-year-old girl who was allegedly kidnapped while on an errand to buy a pancake, with three suspects arrested in connection with the incident.
The child went missing on October 28, 2026, in Mabale Village, Luwero Town Council, prompting her parents to report the matter to Police, which immediately launched investigations and a search operation.
According to preliminary investigations, the girl was allegedly abducted while going to buy a pancake in the neighbourhood.
ASP Sam Twiineamazima, the Savannah Region Police spokesperson, said investigations led to the arrest of a man identified as Muhammad Ssekanjako, who had initially misled investigators by claiming that he had seen the missing child at a traditional healer’s shrine.
“During the course of the inquiry, Ssekanjako’s explanation regarding how he had established that the child was at the shrine raised suspicion and appeared inconsistent,” Twiineamazima said.
He added that during further interrogation on October 30, Ssekanjako allegedly confessed to abducting the child and disclosed that he had taken her to Nkologe Village, where he handed her over to his brother, Musisi Frank.
Police established that Musisi had allegedly entrusted the child to his mother and wife, who were later found with the girl when detectives raided the residence.
“The child was successfully recovered from the residence of Musisi Frank, the principal suspect’s brother,” Twiineamazima said.
Police said Musisi fled upon seeing the officers, while his wife and mother were arrested to assist with investigations.
Preliminary findings indicate that Ssekanjako allegedly abducted the child because he did not have biological children of his own and reportedly intended to take her and raise her as his own.
The rescued girl was medically examined and found to be in good health before being reunited with her biological parents.
Three suspects are currently in Police custody as investigations continue, while efforts to apprehend Musisi are ongoing.
