The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has parted ways with Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojević, the former coach of the Uganda Cranes, following disappointing results in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Micho’s dismissal came after Libya’s national team drew 1-1 with Rwanda in Tripoli and suffered a 3-1 defeat to Benin in the opening two rounds of qualifiers.
These results leave Libya at the bottom of Group D with only one point, ahead of challenging back-to-back fixtures against Nigeria next month.
Libyan football authorities reportedly lost confidence in the Serbian coach due to the team’s poor start in the qualifiers, despite Micho leading Libya to nine wins since his appointment in October last year.
However, critics argue that he failed to build a formidable team capable of competing at a high level in continental competitions.
Micho, a seasoned coach with vast experience in African football, previously enjoyed successful stints with national teams such as Uganda and Zambia.
His tenure with Uganda was particularly noteworthy, as he led the Cranes to their first AFCON qualification in 38 years in 2017.
Libya’s football leadership is now expected to make swift changes as the team prepares for the crucial fixtures against Nigeria, which could determine their chances of qualifying for AFCON 2025.
