The UPDF has broken silence about the incident that happened at the Martyrs Shrine in Munyonyo in which two people were killed.
Earlier reports had indicated there was an explosion which had been suspected to be a bomb that killed two unidentified people who were traveling on a motorcycle.
However, the acting UPDF spokesperson, Col Chris Magezi said the two were suspected terrorists who had been shot dead by the army in an intelligence-led operation.
“A UPDF counter-terrorism unit this morning intercepted and neutralized two armed terrorists in Munyonyo, an upscale city suburb. It was an intelligence led operation, and the security services are on heightened alert to ensure the Martyrs Day celebrations proceed without disruption,” Col Magezi said.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects and persons.
