President Museveni has issued a warning to politicians who intimidate citizens, urging them to stop the practice, which he described as un-African.
The President made the remarks while chairing the UPDF High Command meeting and the Defense Forces Council yesterday at State House Entebbe.
Museveni emphasized the importance of maintaining a disciplined democracy in Uganda, stating that the party he leads, the National Resistance Movement (NRM), does not support hooliganism.
“The NRM advocates for disciplined democracy, not hooliganism or bad language, because we want Ugandans to decide what they want without intimidation,” he said.
He warned politicians who are involved in threatening and intimidating citizens to desist from such actions.
“Politicians engaging in practices that intimidate citizens must stop! This is not the African way,” Museveni added.
The President also condemned the use of negative language, revealing that the matter had been discussed by security agencies and assuring the public that the practice will be addressed.
“The security agencies have discussed this issue, and it will come to an end. You must speak well in public; do not resort to negative speech,” he said.
Museveni went on to encourage the youth to adopt the values upheld by the NRM.
“I therefore urge young people to uphold the values of the NRM. The challenge for young people is to understand what the pioneers started and to carry that legacy forward,” he added.
He called upon the youth to embrace patriotism and work towards the development of the nation.
“They should embrace ‘uzalendo,’ working for the betterment of the country,” Museveni said.
