Absa Bank Uganda has committed Shs300 million to the Pro-Am leg of the 2026 Uganda Golf Open, maintaining its sponsorship at last year’s level and extending its partnership with the country’s premier golf tournament to seven consecutive years.
The announcement was made during the official launch of the 2026 Uganda Golf Open at Uganda Golf Club, Kitante.
The tournament is scheduled to tee off on August 13, 2026, bringing together Uganda’s leading golfers and competitors from across the region in different categories.
The Absa Pro-Am, one of the tournament’s key events, will be held on September 1 at Uganda Golf Club, bringing professional and amateur golfers together in a competitive format.
Billy Bisanga, Head of Client and Digital Marketing at Absa Bank Uganda, said the bank’s continued investment is aimed at supporting player development and raising the standard of competitive golf in Uganda.
“Our partnership with the Uganda Golf Open reflects Absa’s long-term commitment to growing the game and creating opportunities for Ugandan golfers to reach the next level. Through the Absa Pro-Am, we are creating a platform where amateur and professional golfers can compete alongside one another while opening pathways to international exposure through the Magical Kenya Open, one of Africa’s premier tournaments on the DP World Tour,” Bisanga said.
He said more than 60 Ugandan golfers have benefited from the initiative over the past six years, gaining experience and exposure through participation in the Magical Kenya Open.
“We are proud to continue investing in a platform that develops talent, inspires excellence, and positions Uganda’s golfers to compete on the regional and international stage,” he said.
As part of this year’s Pro-Am, up to 10 outstanding performers will receive fully sponsored opportunities to attend the next edition of the Magical Kenya Open.
Priority will be given to the leading qualifying professionals, with any remaining slots allocated to the top-performing amateurs.
The initiative is intended to give Ugandan golfers an opportunity to experience one of Africa’s leading golf events and compete alongside players at an international level.
Dr Jackson Were, President of the Uganda Golf Union, said partnerships such as the one with Absa were important to the development of the sport.
“Strong partnerships are essential to the growth of golf, and Absa has demonstrated that commitment consistently over the past seven years. Their support has helped elevate the Uganda Golf Open while creating opportunities for Ugandan golfers to gain international exposure through the Magical Kenya Open,” Were said.
He said the exposure gained through the initiative was valuable for player development and could contribute to improving the standard of competitive golf in Uganda.
“Those experiences are invaluable for player development and contribute to raising the standard of competitive golf in Uganda. We are grateful for Absa’s continued partnership and look forward to another successful edition of the Uganda Golf Open,” he said.
The Absa Pro-Am has become a regular feature of the Uganda Golf Open, bringing amateur and professional golfers together while providing opportunities for mentorship, knowledge sharing and exposure to international competition.
Beyond the sporting competition, the Uganda Golf Open also contributes to the tourism, hospitality and service sectors while providing opportunities for business networking and regional sporting collaboration.
The Absa Pro-Am will be held on September 1, 2026, at Uganda Golf Club, Kitante, as part of the wider 2026 Uganda Golf Open programme.
