Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has officially endorsed Nathan Nandala Mafabi as its flagbearer for the 2026 presidential election, marking a significant shift in the party’s leadership strategy.
The announcement was made on Wednesday during a press briefing at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi.
The development follows intense party negotiations that saw Patrick Oboi Amuriat, who led the party in the 2021 polls, steps aside, clearing the way for Mafabi’s candidacy.
Party insiders say the decision is aimed at repositioning FDC ahead of a highly competitive election season.
Mafabi will contest against the incumbent, President Museveni who has also indicated his intention to return for election.
Others will be Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu for National Unity Platform and Gen Mugisha Muntu for Alliance for National Transformation among others .
