Police have arrested the driver of a Toyota Hilux registration number UA779DE that was involved in a fatal crash along Entebbe Road, which claimed the lives of two NBS TV journalists and left another seriously injured.
The suspect, identified by Police as Kigozi John Baptist, was arrested during a joint inter-agency operation conducted on Thursday night.
Michael Kananura, the Police spokesperson for Traffic and Road Safety, confirmed the arrest and said the suspect would be produced in court to face charges.
“The driver, identified as Kigozi John Baptist, who was involved in the fatal crash at Namulanda along Entebbe Road that claimed the lives of two journalists working with Next Media and seriously injured another, has been arrested in a joint inter-agency operation conducted last night,” Kananura said.
He said the suspect would be taken to court at the appropriate time as investigations continue, adding that Police would provide further updates as the case progresses.
The crash occurred in the early hours of Friday, August 7, 2026, at Namulanda along Entebbe Road. The journalists were travelling in connection with their work at Next Media when the crash occurred.
The deceased were Badru Kasirye, a producer at NBS TV, and Isaac Namagye, who both died at the scene.
Their colleague, Brian Ssemanda, popularly known as Makona, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Cade Hospital, where he remains under treatment.
Kasirye was a well-known television producer who worked with both NBS TV and Sanyuka TV. He had recently been promoted to Lead Trade Marketing at Next Media.
The arrest of the driver is expected to pave the way for further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash and possible prosecution.
