Police in Lubowa have scored a major breakthrough in the fight against motorcycle robberies after arresting five suspects linked to a series of thefts in Lubowa and Ndejje areas between June 2025 and March 6, 2026.

Racheal Kawala, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson said a March 5, intelligence-led operation in Kyengera Town Council led to the arrest of the main suspect, who subsequently guided investigators to apprehend his accomplices.

“So far, five suspects have been arrested and one motorcycle, registration number UMA 663HM, has been recovered as an exhibit,” Kawala said.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that an estimated 40 motorcycles have been stolen since June 2025 to date within the affected areas.”

According to police, the gang reportedly robs the motorcycles, dismantles them, and sell the parts , with a total of 14 victims so far identified to have lost motorcycles to the gang.

“Efforts are ongoing to arrest additional suspects and other individuals believed to be facilitating or promoting these criminal activities. Investigations into the matter are still ongoing.”
