BIC, the global leader in stationery, lighters, and shavers, has successfully concluded the fourth edition of its rebranded penmanship initiative, Express Myself with My BIC Pen, benefiting approximately 11,000 students across Uganda.
The program, previously known as My Words, My Story, My BIC Pen, encourages students to explore creativity and self-expression through writing and drawing using high-quality BIC ballpoint pens.
Salome Ngugi, Marketing Manager at BIC East Africa, highlighted the program’s impact:
“We are thrilled that the Express Myself with My BIC Pen program has seen sustainable growth year-on-year. As a stationery manufacturer and advocate for quality education, we aim to nurture students’ abilities and empower them to reach their full potential by providing high-quality writing tools. Celebrating this milestone during the 75th anniversary of the iconic BIC Cristal pen is a testament to its global impact.”
Participants honed their skills by transitioning from pencils to pens, with top performers awarded a BIC pen license certificate and BIC-branded educational materials.
Musoke Abbey Bbosa from the Ministry of Education and Sports, while officiating the program’s conclusion, emphasized the importance of writing:
“Today, we celebrate writing with a BIC pen. Communication involves writing, speaking, listening, and understanding, and this program has enabled children to practice all these skills effectively.”
Irene Mirembe, Deputy Headmistress at Buddo Junior School, praised the initiative’s influence on students’ confidence and cognitive development:
“The initiative has significantly benefited our students. Handwriting with high-quality tools empowers them to bring their thoughts to life, boosts self-belief, and enhances information retention and cognitive growth. We are grateful to organizations like BIC for supporting self-expression.”
Primary Three learner Ismail Kalule shared his excitement:
“Completing the Express Myself with My BIC Pen program has boosted my confidence in handwriting. My schoolwork presentation has improved, and I am proud to show my progress to teachers and peers.”
A parent also expressed pride, noting that their child’s improved writing and drawing skills reflect the program’s positive impact.
Through initiatives like Express Myself with My BIC Pen, BIC continues to champion education, creativity, and self-expression among young learners, reaffirming its commitment to shaping the next generation of confident writers.
