The Hoima Magistrate’s Court has ordered a recount of all votes cast in the election for the National Female Youth Representative to Parliament, following a petition filed by NRM candidate Diana Ampaire Kampe challenging the victory of Mercy Kanyesigye.
The recount, scheduled for 2:00 PM today, is currently underway under the supervision of court officials, the candidates, and youth representatives.
Earlier, several youth leaders had protested the petition, calling on the judiciary to dismiss the case and maintain that the initial election results were free and fair.
The election was held on 6 February at Hoima City Stadium, with the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Simon Byabakama, present to oversee the process.
Preliminary results declared Mercy Kanyesigye the winner with 216 votes, followed by Diana Ampaire Kampe with 198 votes. Julia Muhumuza garnered 24 votes, NUP’s Edith Namande received one vote, and one ballot was declared invalid.
The court-ordered recount now sets the stage for a final confirmation of the results, as both candidates and their supporters await the outcome.
