The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has urged the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to hand over NUP president’s head of security, Eddie Mutwe to the Uganda Police if he is suspected of any wrongdoing.

This call was made during the 33rd Buganda Lukiiko at Bulange Mengo, as Mayiga delivered the 2025 State of the Kingdom address.

In his speech, the Katikkiro condemned the detention of Eddie Mutwe by the Chief of Defence Forces and urged him to hand Mutwe over to the appropriate legal authorities if he is suspected of any wrongdoing.

He cited reports that Mutwe was being held without trial, his beards forcibly shaved, and subjected to cultural reorientation, including being forced to learn Runyankole.

“It is the police that is mandated by law to handle criminal cases. Even then, the law is clear no one should be held in custody for more than 48 hours without appearing in court,” Katikkiro Mayiga emphasized.

“I saw Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba tweeting that he is holding Eddie Mutwe and teaching him Runyankole. Such acts are not just unacceptable; they can stir chaos in the country.”

The Katikkiro also used the platform to caution the public against political manipulation ahead of the 2026 elections, particularly the growing trend of voter bribery.

“It is morally wrong for politicians to bribe voters. I ask the voters to reject such acts and uphold integrity in our democratic process,” he added.
