Immigration authorities have apprehended 16 irregular immigrants following an enforcement operation conducted on Friday in Nakawa and Banda, Kampala, targeting car bonds and related business premises.
According to Immigration Uganda, the operation focused on verifying the legal status of foreign nationals operating or residing in the affected areas. The enforcement team inspected dozens of individuals during the exercise.
“Our enforcement team on Friday apprehended 16 irregular immigrants from car bonds in Nakawa and Banda, of Nepalese, Indian, and Pakistani nationalities,” Immigration Uganda said in a statement.
During the same operation, officials established that 46 foreign nationals were fully compliant with Uganda’s immigration laws and possessed valid documentation.
“A total of 46 were found to be compliant,” the statement added, noting that the operation was part of routine enforcement efforts aimed at promoting lawful stay and employment of foreign nationals in the country.
Authorities said individuals found without proper documentation will be processed in accordance with the law, including verification of their identities, immigration status, and the circumstances under which they entered or remained in Uganda.
Immigration Uganda emphasized that the enforcement drive was not targeted at any specific nationality, but was intended to ensure compliance with immigration regulations, maintain public order, and safeguard national security.
“We strongly encourage foreign nationals to apply for proper resident facilities,” the authority said, reminding employers and business owners of their obligation to ensure that all foreign workers hold valid visas and work permits.
The Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control further warned that harbouring or employing undocumented foreigners is an offence under Ugandan law and attracts penalties.
Officials said similar operations will continue in other parts of the country as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal stay, protect the local labour market, and promote adherence to immigration laws.
Immigration Uganda also urged foreign nationals who may be out of status to regularise their stay voluntarily by engaging the relevant offices before enforcement actions are taken, stressing that compliance remains the safest and lawful option.
