The Minister for Education and Sports, Janet Museveni has hailed Uganda Vocational and Technical Assessment Board (UVTAB) after candidates  recorded a remarkable 95 percent pass rate in the November/December 2025 end-of-course and programme assessments.

A total of 158,940 candidates were assessed during the November/December 2025 series, including both continuing and final-year trainees. Of these, 27,460 candidates registered for end-of-course assessments, with 26,912 pursuing national certificate programmes and 548 enrolled in diploma courses.

In a statement delivered on her behalf by State Minister for Higher Education, John Chrysestom Muyingo, Mrs Museveni lauded UVTAB for upholding high standards and fostering competence-based training across the country.

“I am glad to note the very good performance across all fields of programmes, with a general pass rate of 95 percent among candidates completing their programmes,” Mrs Museveni said.

She attributed the achievement to the UVTAB’s dedication to quality assessment and the growing strength of Uganda’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sub-sector.

UVTAB Executive Secretary, Onesmus Oyesigye, reported a 96 percent attendance rate among registered candidates, signaling strong engagement.

Performance was consistently high across programme categories, with national craft certificate candidates achieving a 96 percent competency rate, while business certificate and diploma candidates recorded a 92 percent success rate.

Mrs Museveni also commended UVTAB’s commitment to inclusivity, noting that candidates with special needs attained a 93 percent pass rate. She highlighted the support measures put in place, including sign language interpreters, extended exam times, and dedicated personnel to assist learners with special abilities.

While celebrating the success, Oyesigye identified areas for improvement, particularly in engineering drawing, computer programming, and mathematics modules, citing limited access to equipment and insufficient practical exposure in some training centres.

UVTAB Board Chairperson, Prof. Dorothy Okello, emphasized the narrowing gender gap in several programmes, although challenges persist in technology-related fields. She called for sustained efforts to encourage female participation in technical training.

Mrs Museveni reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the TVET sector through increased funding for trainee sponsorships starting in the 2025/2026 academic year. The investment aims to expand training facilities, acquire modern equipment, and develop curricula aligned with industry needs.

“This initiative supports Uganda’s Vision 2040 and the National Development Plan IV, both of which prioritize developing a skilled workforce to drive growth in manufacturing, agriculture, and ICT,” Mrs Museveni said.

She urged industry stakeholders to partner with training institutions to ensure programmes remain relevant to labour market demands.

“With continued collaboration and investment, we shall build a skilled, inclusive, and resilient workforce capable of driving Uganda’s socio-economic transformation,” she concluded.
