The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Kalangala Woman MP, Hellen Nakimuli.
Mayiga said he last saw Nakimuli just days ago at St. Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral during thanksgiving prayers for the Kabaka, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, who was celebrating his 71st birthday.
“We are saddened by the death of Hellen Nakimuli, whom we were with at Namungoona cathedral on April 13 during prayers for the Kabaka’s birthday,” he said.
The Katikkiro described Nakimuli as a dedicated leader who actively supported Buganda Kingdom affairs while diligently serving her constituents.
“She has been very active in Buganda affairs and has performed her duties as MP well,” he added.
He extended condolences to her family, the people of Ssese, the Orthodox Church, and the National Unity Platform, noting the loss of a promising young leader.
“I extend my condolences to the family, especially her father Fr. Christopher Walusimbi, the Orthodox Church, and the NUP party,” Mayiga said.
Nakimuli died on Sunday evening at Alexandria Hospital following a failed surgery.
According to her aide, Farouk Muwonge, she had driven herself to the facility for what was described as a minor procedure. Although the surgery was reportedly successful, efforts to revive her from a coma were unsuccessful.
