KCB Bank Uganda has announced a Shs 80 million sponsorship for the upcoming Pearl of Africa Rally Championship, reinforcing its commitment to developing motorsport and supporting local talent.
The announcement was made during a launch event held at Mestil Hotel in Kampala. The rally is scheduled to take place from 7th to 9th May 2026 in Mbarara.
The sponsorship, delivered in partnership with the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU), is part of the bank’s broader strategy to support the growth and professionalisation of sport in Uganda.
The launch attracted key stakeholders, including FMU officials, rally drivers, fans and members of the media. As part of the partnership, KCB Bank Uganda will back three drivers—Mutebi Nasser, Mike Mukula Jr. and Oscar Ntambi—who recently secured victory in the ARC2 category on their debut in the World Rally Championship.
Dr Patrick Ogwel, General Secretary of the National Council of Sports, welcomed the sponsorship, describing it as a boost to the country’s sporting ambitions.
He noted that strong partnerships are essential in helping athletes transition from local competition to international platforms, adding that motorsport has the potential to remain a key source of national pride.
FMU patron Captain Mike Mukula also praised both the drivers and sponsors, highlighting the importance of private sector support in sustaining the sport.
He called on government to formally integrate motorsport into the national sports agenda, while also urging organisers to incorporate themes such as environmental sustainability and community health into rally events.
Noela Byuma, Head of Marketing and Communications at KCB Bank Uganda, said the sponsorship reflects the bank’s long-term investment in motorsport, following its recent role as title sponsor of the National Rally Championship (NRC).
She noted that supporting both local and regional competitions is key to building a stronger pipeline of talent and enhancing the professionalism of the sport.
Byuma also encouraged fans to attend the Mbarara event, with tickets priced at Shs 10,000 and available via KCB Pay.
Driver Mutebi Nasser welcomed the sponsorship, saying it provides both motivation and responsibility as competitors prepare for the championship.
He said the team’s focus is firmly on competing for top honours in the National Rally Championship standings.
KCB Bank Uganda also underscored its commitment to environmental sustainability, noting that measures have been put in place to minimise the rally’s environmental footprint.
