Four senior officials of Kotido Municipal Council have been arrested over the alleged misappropriation of funds meant for road rehabilitation and maintenance within Kotido Municipality.
The arrests were carried out by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) in collaboration with police in Kotido District, following investigations into the handling of about shs 1 billion allocated for municipal road works.
The suspects identified as Emmanuel Okaja, the Town Clerk, Gasper Okidi, the Senior Civil Engineer; Deo Akello Nyanga, the Senior Internal Auditor; and John Bosco Lokure, the Assistant Inventory Officer.
According to preliminary investigations, the officials allegedly conspired to embezzle more than shs200 million meant for construction materials during the 2024/2025 financial year.
Investigators say the missing materials included 1,735.7 trips of gravel, 250 bags of cement, 25 trips of hardcore, and 10 trips of sand, which were intended for road works across the municipality.
Authorities also accuse the Town Clerk and the Senior Civil Engineer of neglect of duty for allegedly failing to supervise and monitor road construction projects in line with approved guidelines.
The affected roads include Miresiae–Napawu Road, Morungor–Kotyanga Road, Nangayum–Kawlapei Road, Chairman’s Road, Business Road, and Romrom–Nakutakuwam Road.
The suspects are currently in custody and are expected to be arraigned before court as investigations continue.
