Luwunga Village LC1 Chairman Muhammed Muwonge and another suspect, Abdalla Ssozi, have been remanded to prison after being accused of posing as owners of a 311-acre piece of land in Mukono District and allegedly selling it to unsuspecting victims.
The two were arraigned before the Mukono Magistrates Court by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Court remanded the suspects until August 26, 2026, pending further proceedings.
Prosecution alleges that between October and November 2025, Muwonge and Ssozi unlawfully entered land comprised in Block 167, Plot 81, Kyaggwe, located in Luwunga Village, Nama Sub-county, Mukono District.
The approximately 311-acre property is registered in the name of Stella Kiwanuka, the administrator of the estate of the late Kiwanuka Joseph Musanze.
According to the prosecution, Ssozi allegedly falsely presented himself as the rightful owner of the land and, together with Muwonge, allegedly forged land sale agreements that were issued to some of the victims.
The prosecution further alleges that the suspects went beyond the alleged fraudulent sale of the land and caused extensive damage to property belonging to occupants.
They are accused of stealing metallic water tanks and water-pumping machines and destroying houses located on the disputed land.
The duo is also accused of uprooting and destroying crops, including maize, cassava, sweet potatoes, sugarcane, tomatoes and banana plantations, as well as eucalyptus trees.
Prosecution estimates the value of the destroyed property and crops at approximately Shs1 billion.
Muwonge and Ssozi join Kayongo Bonniface and Kiseka Hamuza, who were earlier charged and remanded in connection with similar allegations arising from the same land dispute.
The case forms part of ongoing efforts by anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies to combat alleged land fraud, illegal occupation, forged land transactions and the fraudulent sale of property in Uganda.
The accused remain presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a court of law.
