Makerere University has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that its 76th graduation ceremony has been postponed.
In a statement shared on X, University Management confirmed that the graduation will proceed as scheduled from February, 24 to 27 2026 at Freedom Square, Makerere University.
“#Mak76thGrad has not been postponed. Dates remain 24th–27th February 2026 at Freedom Square,” the university stated.
University authorities have advised graduands, parents, and members of the public to disregard misleading information and rely solely on official communication channels for accurate updates.
The four-day ceremony will see thousands of students from various colleges and academic units awarded degrees and diplomas in recognition of their successful completion of studies. Each day’s graduation session will begin at 8:30 a.m.
During the ceremonies, Makerere University is expected to confer 185 PhDs, 2,034 Master’s degrees, 6,043 Bachelor’s degrees, 137 postgraduate diplomas, and 33 specialised postgraduate diplomas.
The university also announced that graduation gowns will be issued starting February 2, 2026, at the University Hall dining hall, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on weekdays. Graduands will be required to present valid identification and proof of payment when collecting their gowns.
Makerere University has encouraged all graduating students to complete their preparations in time and continue following official platforms for any further updates regarding the ceremony.
