Godwin Tasike Aaron, resident of Buwere village, Butiru sub county, in Manafwa district has commended the Special Forces Command(SFC) for addressing his plight and fund the reconstruction of his house after its roof was damaged by President Museveni’s chopper.
Tasike 45, a grader driver for Manafwa local government hailed SFC for a “rare spirit and answering his calls.”
The incident
In December, 2024, as President Museveni visited Parish Development Model beneficiaries in Manafwa,his chopper landed at one of the nearby playground and on taking off, one of the nearby houses had its roof damaged.
“As the helicopter took off, its strong winds damaged part of my house’s roof,” Tasike said.
“I reported the matter to the district security committee to ensure I get compensated.”
The district security committee headed by the RDC communicated the same to SFC headquarters in Entebbe that sent its team to the ground to verify the claims.
Fast forward, on June, 4, 2025, the owner, Tasike and the district security committee members were invited for a harmonization meeting at SFC headquarters in Entebbe.
During the meeting, the team met with the Special Forces Command Chief of Staff, Brig Gen Paul Namawa who represented the commander, Maj Gen David Mugisha.
It was noted that the roof for Tasike’s house was party destroyed by strong winds off the chopper’s rotor blades but the exterior walls remained intact.
The windows and doors of the house were unaffected.
The meeting agreed that most of the damages caused by wind on the house were secondary .
“It wasn’t intentional for this to happen. Usually the president flies and lands in gazetted areas like Soroti airstrip. However, I apologise on behalf of the team that flies the chopper. It is regrettable,” Brig Namawa said during the meeting.
He applauded district security committee for looking into the matter and taking appropriate steps.
“By sending our team on the ground we wanted to see the extent of the damage and assess what needed to be fixed. The entire house will be repaired,” Brig Namawa said.
On Thursday, a team of SFC officers handed over shs29 million in cash to Tasike to cater for the repair works.
He was in company of his wife and other family members while the district security committee members witnessed the same.
“I am happy with this gesture from SFC. This is like being born again since I wasn’t sure my house would ever be repaired,” Tasike said.
The Manafwa RDC, Patience Webule said this was a sigh of relief for her and the entire district security committee.
“It is a great relief that it has come to a conclusion. This is an area predominantly NRM and has great impact in their mobilization. It is a plus for them,” Webule said.
