The State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Godfrey Kabbyanga, has formally conceded defeat in the ruling NRM party primaries for Bukonzo West constituency, held on Thursday in Kasese District.
Kabyanga lost to seasoned politician and former Defence Minister, Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, in a hotly contested race that drew significant voter turnout across the constituency.
In a statement issued shortly after the results were announced, Minister Kabbyanga congratulated Dr. Kiyonga on his victory and called for unity among National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters as the party prepares for the 2026 general elections.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Dr. Crispus Kiyonga for winning the primaries of Bukonzo West constituency,” Kabbyanga stated. “I also thank the people of Bukonzo West for turning up in big numbers to vote.”
Kabbyanga emphasized the need for collective support behind the NRM flag bearer, urging his supporters to rally behind Kiyonga to ensure victory in the general elections and to counter the influence of opposition parties in the Rwenzori region.
“We must rally behind the NRM flag bearer and ensure we uproot the opposition come 2026,” he said, referring to the strong presence of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in the area.
Bukonzo West has been a key battleground between the NRM and FDC, with the upcoming 2026 elections expected to intensify political competition in the region.
