The Inspectorate of Government(IGG) has among others turned the heat on former Leader of Opposition, Mathias Mpuuga over the shs500 million service award he received from parliament.
In a notice, the ombudsman says she will go for Mpuuga, Solomon Silwany, Esther Afoyochan and Prossy Akampulira Mbabazi who are all MPs and also members of the parliamentary commission over the money they shared.
“The respondents being members of the parliamentary commission breached section sections 8( deals with conflict of interest), 9( disclosure), 12A( conflict of interest) of the Leadership Code Act , 2002 when they participated in a meeting in which they had a conflict of interest in which a decision was taken to give a one-time pay-off service award to the first respondent(Mpuuga) and shs400 million each to the rest of the other respondents on a personal to holder basis,” the IGG says.
The development comes on the backdrop of pressure that Mpuuga is facing following a social media expose of minutes of the meeting of the Parliamentary Commission chaired by Speaker Anita Among he attended on May 6, 2022 and shared nearly shs2 billion of taxpayers’ money in form of a ‘service award which has since been questioned.
Pressure has been piling on Mpuuga, especially from his National Unity Platform party whose president, Robert Kyagulanyi, recently suspended him from the position of deputy president for Buganda.
Mpuuga has however maintained that there was nothing wrong in the shs500 million service award.
