President Museveni has appointed Dennis Katungi, the Head of Communications and Media Relations at the Uganda Media Centre, as the substantive Deputy Executive Director of the government communications agency.
Katungi has been serving in the position in an acting capacity since the death of Col. Shaban Bantariza in 2020.
In a May 30, 2026 response to a recommendation by the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, President Museveni said he had no objection to Katungi’s appointment.
Consequently, through the State House Comptroller, Jane Barekye, the President directed the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance to implement the appointment.
“This is therefore to forward to you H.E. the President’s directive for implementation. The position falls under the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, and the officer is already serving in the department,” Barekye stated.
