President Museveni on Thursday met the leadership of MTN Uganda at State House Entebbe to discuss the role of telecommunications and financial technology in driving Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
The MTN delegation was led by Board Chairman Charles Mbire and Chief Executive Officer Sylvia Mulinge, alongside General Manager Corporate Services Enid Edroma.
According to a statement issued after the meeting, the discussions focused on the strategic contribution of the telecommunications sector to innovation, improved service delivery, and inclusive economic growth.
Both parties underscored the importance of digital connectivity and fintech platforms in expanding access to financial services, enhancing efficiency in public service systems, and supporting grassroots participation in the formal economy.
President Museveni commended MTN Uganda for its continued investment in infrastructure and digital services, describing telecommunications and fintech as critical enablers of Uganda’s broader development agenda.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to policies that promote digital inclusion, strengthen innovation ecosystems, and expand reliable connectivity across the country.
The MTN Uganda leadership, in turn, praised the government for maintaining a stable and enabling investment climate that has supported growth in the telecommunications sector.
