President Museveni has retained Justice Simon Byabakama as the Electoral Commission chairperson, this website has learnt.
According to a January, 5, 2024 letter to the Speaker of Parliament Museveni has also retained Hajjati Aisha Lubega as the deputy chairperson and Stephen Tashobya as a commissioner after the expiry of their terms on January 7.
New commissioners
In the same vein, the president has appointed four new commissioners to the election body including Makerere University lecturer Dr. Ssimba Ssali Kayunga , former Kyoga County MP Anthony Okello, former Nansana Municipality MP, Robert Kasule Ssebunya and the body’s acting head of administration, Pamela Etonu Okudi.
The names have been forwarded to the appointments committee of parliament for vetting.
These will be in charge of the 2026 general elections.
