Former Butambala County Member of Parliament Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi has been arrested by security barely a day after his release on bail, this website has learnt.
Reports indicate Kivumbi who was released yesterday, Thursday after spending 169 days on remand was arrested on Friday in Mpigi as he returned to Kampala from his Butambala home area.
He was intercepted by police before security operatives grabbed him from his car and bundled into a waiting numberless drone that drove him to an unknown destination.
Details and reason for his arrest however remain scanty
The arrest comes hours after a video in which the NUP vice president for Buganda in which he addressed his supporters in Buambala and vowed that imprisonment will not break his resolve.
“As NUP supporters in Butambala, none should intimidate you, your commander is back.”
Kivumbi was earlier arrested in January in connection with alleged electoral violence that occurred in Butambala on the night of January 16, during the post-election period. The violence reportedly claimed several lives at his home.
He was subsequently charged with terrorism alongside 25 others before the Butambala Magistrate’s Court and remanded to prison, where he has spent nearly six months.
According to the prosecution, Kivumbi and his co-accused orchestrated attacks on Kibibi Police Station, the Butambala Electoral Commission tally centre, and other targets between January 11 and January 17, 2026.
The state alleges that the attacks were intended to influence government actions or intimidate the public, resulting in the deaths of seven people.
