Tension turned to tragedy in Ngoma Town Council on Thursday when Mr. Living Kuhonda, a lawyer and resident of Gomero Zone, collapsed and died instantly during the declaration of election results at a local polling station.
Kuhonda, who was known as an ardent supporter of incumbent candidate Enock Nyongore, reportedly collapsed at the height of the official announcement, shocking onlookers and fellow supporters.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Ngoma Town Council Police Station confirmed the incident through a press release and is currently conducting investigations into the circumstances surrounding the sudden death.
“The Ngoma Town Council Police Station regrets to announce the sudden death incident and extends deepest condolences to the family, friends, and community affected by this tragic event,” said ASP S. Twiineamazima, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Savannah region said.
Twineamazima noted that police has launched investigation into the matter.
“We are committed to ensuring transparency and maintaining calm as investigations continue,” he added.
According to the police, a concerned resident of Gomero Zone made the first emergency call, prompting officers to respond swiftly to the scene.
The tragedy has shaken the local community and cast a somber mood over what was otherwise a charged political event.
It also highlights the deep emotional stakes involved in local elections and the toll such moments can take on individuals.
Police have called for calm and assured the public that updates will be shared as investigations progress.
Community leaders have also urged residents to remain peaceful and allow the process to take its course.
