The Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua has called an emergency meeting of all NRM Members of Parliament and NRM-leaning Independents ahead of Parliament’s consideration of the controversial Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2026 in the afternoon.
The meeting being held at the Office of the President in Kampala, is expected to harmonise the party’s position before the Bill is tabled for debate later in the afternoon.
He urged all members to attend in person, emphasising the importance of the day’s business. “Please endeavor to attend in person to handle business of the day,” he added.
The caucus meeting comes just hours before the 2:00pm plenary sitting, where Parliament is expected to consider the Protection of Sovereignty Bill, a proposal that has sparked debate among lawmakers and sections of the public.
The outcome of the morning meeting is likely to shape how NRM legislators will approach the Bill during the afternoon session.
